Crisis Team Training

This is a new workshop created at the request of clients who wanted a special training program to help their people further develop and test their crisis management skills.

The focus is the decision-making process of crisis management, including the development and implementation of strategies, as well as communications. Potential participants for this workshop include crisis team members and/or senior-level executives who would hold crucial management responsibilities in a real crisis.

Workshops are driven by realistic crisis scenarios that force participants to make multiple decisions to manage the crisis. Implementation is simulated, although interviews, news conferences and public meetings are normally videotaped for review and critique.

This workshop can be scheduled for approximately one day to one and one-half days. An abbreviated version of the course also can be scheduled for one-half day. The number of attendees is not limited, although active participation should be limited to those who would actually be involved in managing a real crisis.

Each workshop begins with a brief lecture and interactive discussion that includes the essentials of crisis management, common mistakes and the seven steps to successfully managing a crisis. Handout materials include copies of Real People, Real Crises: An Inside Look at Corporate Crisis Communications.

Crisis Team Training is a stand-alone exercise and – unless requested by the client – does not include media training as part of the program. Media training is not a prerequisite for this class, although we suggest anyone who might be chosen to serve as a corporate spokesperson attend our media training workshop prior to this class.
